Bible Whale is an offline Bible study app. It works without an account, without an internet connection and without telling anyone anything. This page explains, in plain words, what the app keeps on your device, what an optional account keeps on our servers, and how to delete it all.
1. What stays on your device
Everything the app needs lives on the phone or computer you use it on. None of it is sent anywhere unless you sign in to an account (see section 2). This includes:
- Settings — text size, layout, translation, sound preferences and the like.
- Notes, folders and highlights — your notebook.
- Verse Flash likes and which verses you have already seen.
- Offline scripture — the Bible text, the tagged Hebrew and Greek, lexicons, concordance and the commentary library you download for offline use.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing the browser's site data for biblewhale.com, removes all of it.
2. What an account stores on our servers
An account is optional. It exists for one reason: so your notebook can follow you between the Windows app and the phone app. If you create one, we store:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To sign you in and to reach you about your account if you ask us to. |
| Username | Shown in the app as your name. |
| Password | Handled only by Supabase Auth, which keeps a salted hash. We never see, store or log your password. |
| A synced copy of your notebook | Your notes, folders and highlights, so they appear on every device you sign in on. Only your own account can read this row. |
Where: on Supabase, hosted in Canada (AWS region ca-central-1). Our own
functions run on Netlify. If you never sign in, nothing about you is on either.
3. What we never collect
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking or analytics software of any kind — not ours, not anyone else's.
- No location, no contacts, no photos, no microphone, no device fingerprinting.
- No record of which passages you read, search for or study.
Our hosting providers keep ordinary short-lived server logs (such as the IP address a request came from) to run the service and to limit abuse, as any website does. We do not use these to identify or profile you.
4. Donations
Bible Whale is free for everyone, and donations are entirely optional — they unlock nothing and are not tied to your account. On the website, payment is handled by Stripe; the payment page belongs to them, and we never see your card number. What we receive is a confirmation that a payment happened, its amount, and the email address you gave at checkout, which we use once to send you a thank-you receipt. Nothing is purchased inside the phone apps. Refunds are handled through Stripe.
5. AI commentary
Passage commentary and plain-English word explanations are written by an AI model. When you ask for one that is not already in the offline library, the app sends only the passage reference and text (or the dictionary entry) to our server, which asks an AI provider — Google Gemini or Anthropic — for the explanation and then caches the result so it is never generated twice. No personal data is attached to these requests: no account, no email, no device identifier. The same passage gives the same cached answer to everyone.
6. Children
The app can be used by anyone, but accounts are not for children under 13. We do not knowingly create accounts for, or collect personal data from, anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
7. Deleting your account
In the app: open Settings, find Delete account under the account section, and confirm with your password. That is all; no email needed.
Deleting your account removes your email address, username, password record and the synced copy of your notebook from our servers. The notes on your own device are left exactly as they are. Donation records held for accounting stay with the payment provider and are not tied to the account.
On the web: biblewhale.com/delete-account.html deletes the account with your email and password, no app needed.
If you cannot do either, email inquiries@theservingcompany.co from the address on the account and we will delete it for you.
8. How long we keep things
Account data is kept for as long as the account exists. When you delete it, it is removed immediately from the live database, and from encrypted backups within 30 days. AI commentary caches contain no personal data and are kept indefinitely.
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or give you a copy. Because everything is either on your own device or in your own account, the app itself can do most of this — your notes are readable on your device at any time, and the account can be deleted as described above. For anything else, including a copy of your synced notebook, email us. We will answer within 30 days and will never charge for it. If you are in the EU, UK, Canada or a state with a privacy law, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top, and the app will point to the new version. We will not quietly start collecting something this page says we do not.
